February Update (new hair, speaking, + more)

Hello friends!

It’s been a busy month (or couple of months?) and when I considered what I wanted to talk about in my “Friday’s Favourites” roundup, I realized all my favourite things are the things that have been happening recently! So for those who are interested, in place of my usual “Friday’s Favourites” here are a few of the things I’ve been up to…

1. Speaking at 100 Mile House

IMG_0051I had the opportunity to travel to 100 Mile House to share my story and let people know about Libero Network. It was an amazing weekend and I am so grateful for everyone who opened their homes to me, invited me to speak, and took time to listen. (to inquire about speaking, head on over here).

2. ¬†Sharing with Trinity Western University’s RAs

I also was invited to speak to the RAs at TWU. We chatted about a lot of things including mental health, self-care, and how to care for the girls in their dorms who may be going through depression or an eating disorder.

3. Participating in #BellLetsTalk

#BellLetsTalk was a huge success this year and we were excited to be a part of it at Libero Network. The day was filled with tweets, articles, and videos all dedicated to changing the conversation about mental health and, most importantly, to start talking about it!

4. Attending the BeYOUnique Conference

Despite being hit by a nasty cold, it was great to be at Vancouver’s BeYOUnique conference and share with the teens about Libero Network and also meet some amazing people who are doing amazing work with the youth in our city!

5. Attending Missionsfest

IMG_0062It was truly a dream come true to have a booth at Missionsfest for the first time this year! I can’t even begin to express how excited I am for all the amazing connections we made and all the wonderful people I met!

It’s so excited and such an honour to be able to spread the word about Libero Network and to share the stories of those in the community.

Thank you everyone who stopped by our booth!

6. Changing my hair ūüôā

It was time for a change–so I did it! (still purple, of course!)

¬†I thought I’d also take a moment for those of you who may not be entirely familiar with Libero Network to explain a bit more what we are and how we started.

In short, Libero Network is a nonprofit, online community aimed at offering support mostly for teens and young adults who are dealing with depression, addiction, eating disorders, self-injury, anxiety, negative self-image etc… We promote mental health, body positivity, and holistic wellbeing.

We do this through:

Libero Network began 5 years ago this April when I shared my story online. After sharing my story, I had others come up and want to share theirs as well and the community began to grow. At the same time, I was in recovery for an eating disorder and looking for a safe, online community to supplement (not replace) professional help. However, I found that most websites were geared more towards raising awareness (statistics, celebrity news etc..), which wasn’t helpful, and most blogs would be good one day, but then triggering the next.

I was shocked that I couldn’t find a community that was somewhere in between: professional like an organization website, but personal and practical like recovery blogs. And so I built Libero Network on this premise.

Can I take a minute to celebrate? Today I received our social media reports, and our community has grown to over 10,000 people! I’m blown away, inspired, and insanely excited!

We’ve made a commitment at Libero Network to never charge for any of our resources or programs and to never place advertisements on our site (because as soon as you have ads, you turn your readers into a product). This means we are fully funded by donations and sponsors. If you or your business is interested in supporting us, please check out our donations page–it takes people like you to keep us going!

So in short, that’s what we’re all about!

I want to thank everyone who has been part of this journey over the years as well as the new friends I’ve made this past month. January was truly life-changing for me and I appreciate all of your encouragement and support!¬†

I’m so excited to see what 2015 has in story!
