Q+A: If I stop dieting, I regain weight – how do I get back to my ‘normal’ weight?

Anonymous asked:

I am usually ____lbs, but now I’ve gained weight and I am ____lbs. Whenever I stop dieting, I put on weight. How do I get back to my normal weight?

Thank-you for your message.

It concerns me that you are so interested in numbers. Weight is a TERRIBLE indicator of health (as are BMI, measurements etc…)

My only advice is this: STOP DIETING. Stop. Now. Embrace Intuitive Eating. THROW AWAY THE SCALE. And see what happens. Your body will nourish itself and settle on it’s natural, healthy weight. But more than that, your mind will also settle on a healthy acceptance of your body.

As my favourite author Anne Lamott says: “If you don’t like yourself now, you won’t like yourself 20lbs from now – it’s an inside job.”

I also recommend picking up the book “Intuitive Eating” by Evelyn Tribole & Elyse Resch – it will teach you everything you need to know to let go of your dieting mentality and embrace Intuitive Eating. 🙂

I wish you all the best!

PS – the odds are, if you need to diet to maintain a certain weight, it is NOT your ‘normal’ or ‘natural’ weight. 🙂
