30 Things I’ve Learned in 30 Years

30. It seems like such a milestone, and maybe it is. Do I feel as old as I always perceived thirty-year-olds to be? Absolutely not. However, suddenly twenty seems incredibly young to me. I will save any further reflections and ramblings on this for another time. Let’s jump right into what you came here for…

30 Things I’ve Learned in 30 Years:

  1. The world of Board Games has more to offer than Catan and Scrabble.
  2. There are a lot of people who will tell you a lot of things about nutrition and food. It’s actually not as complicated (or scary) as it’s often made out to be.
  3. Rothenburg is a place worth seeing; however, beware of the Schneeball — they will attack you.
  4. The difference between an adequate sandwich and an excellent sandwich is sprouts.
  5. Your anxiety is not the enemy. It may even be your superpower.
  6. Munich is a perfectionist’s paradise.
  7. Purple hair is high maintenance.
  8. Take care of your skin today. Don’t put it off.
  9. Starbucks’ Egg Bites taste just as good as they smell.
  10. Wear SPF daily. Yes, even in the winter.
  11. It’s difficult to stay healthy without eating meat.
  12. People may not tell you how they are doing, but they will show you. Pay close attention.
  13. Social Media may have been a mistake…
  14. Learn smart money management (and investment) and take action today.
  15. GDPR compliance is hard. And by hard, I mean really gosh darn hard. Good luck. (Article 13 may also be a cause for concern.)
  16. Practice gratitude daily.
  17. Make changes today, not tomorrow. Because ‘tomorrow’ never comes.
  18. Sia makes some pretty great music.
  19. Every time you are given an opportunity, exceed the expectations. (Thanks, Sean Evans)
  20. Everyone needs a relaxing, creative hobby. (and I believe we all have creativity–find yours.)
  21. Don’t overcomplicate exercise. Just do it.
  22. Challenge yourself constantly; it pays off.
  23. Most of what we recycle in BC (and elsewhere) ends up in the landfill anyway. This is tragic.
  24. Buzzfeed is everything that’s wrong with modern journalism.
  25. Germany makes sense (most of the time).
  26. Our mental health is linked to our ability to connect intimately with those around us.
  27. Don’t get distracted by what other people are doing — you don’t have that kind of time.
  28. Keeping plants is rewarding and not as hard as it may seem. (Bonus Tip: get a pothos!)
  29. If you spend your life on your phone, life will pass you by. Don’t let that happen.
  30. Life is beautiful.

For those of you who voted for a gratitude list instead, I’ve decided to write an end-of-year gratitude list for 2018. So stay tuned!
